What is a
deed transfer tangled title?

You already own your home or someone you know is willing to give it to you.

If the owner of your home is deceased:

  • Make sure that probate was correctly completed and all family members of property owner who could have inherited interest in the property (heirs) are in communication

  • Purchase a title report* to find out if there are any debts (called judgments or liens) connected to the property or property owner because you can be held liable for these once you assume title

PHASE 2

Transferring Title

2-4 Months

  • Draft deed and transfer tax forms

  • Have all heirs sign and notarize deed pages granting ownership to you

  • Record deed with Department of Records and pay transfer taxes, if applicable*

  • File an inheritance tax return*
